I will tell you a story about Ms. Brown
She is too dark to be white and too white to be brown
Too quiet to be loud
With loudness, so stark it mutes the sound
Too strong to be weak but too humble for the crown
She will draw you in and just as quickly erase you out
Never go against her, because she always wins
She tries her best to be good, but she is drowning in sins
Her past is dark, and her future is bright
Filling a dull room with colour whenever she’s in sight
She gets whatever she wants, with such little fight
And that’s okay; you are on her side, cheering her on
You believe in her, man that girl is strong
She understands things beyond you and me
A receiver of signs that normalcy can’t see
Her feet are deeply imprinted, not even trying to make a mark
She likes to see the night end, just for the day to start
The story about Ms. Brown is ongoing
She’ll be just fine with or without you knowing
