The Colour of Pride

a poem

Pride is a funny word

It comes in many colours

Those that know better

Treat it like their own

I was born a mix

of many many shades

It’s easy to resist

unchaining culture’s ways

All I had to do

Was brave it up and walk

through different attributes

change my mind and talk

Of all the things I said

and those forgotten in vain

I am prouder of the things

that cause me more pain

My skin will be the same

It’s a matter of being whole

I won’t change my colours

But I know I will change my soul

Because even if I wished

To have the world unite in one

I know that all the colours

Will make it come undone

There is beauty in being unique

There are indeed a lot of perk

To be one in a million

You’ve got to put in some work

And though the colours might

Make some of us lose courage

The world has many ways

To surely encourage

Don’t be shy of being

Or showing who you are

Your mind doesn’t need freeing

Because we all turn into stars

And if anyone confront

Your beauty or the choice

That it’s only yours to make

But not of theirs to take

You will find your inner balance

And peace will quick come forth

There is no point in arguing

What it’s not theirs, it’s yours
