The Colors of Paradise

you and me and that's the dream

the yellow of your sun hitting the water,

the blue of your touch mingling with the waves,

the red of your smile summoning the way—

I wanted nothing more than to memorize you in shades.

the gray of your shadow glinting off the pier,

the white of your swimsuit bouncing off pavement,

the black of your eyes swallowing the passion—

I wanted nothing more than to soothe your colors.

the violet of your fingernails digging into sand,

the orange of your talk undulating into sass,

the green of your flip-flops matching the seaweed—

I wanted nothing more than to bask in your rainbow.

now there's nothing left but murkiness in the days since,

the days since you left me behind on a beach in paradise,

the paradise just you and me and the palette we made together.
