A jump into the darkness of night
Landing beneath a cold and lonely rain
Hearts harkening for a fight
Something to dull the ache of such deeply cut pain
Tears, reminders of what's been lost
And deep and gut-wrenching fear abounds
Never knowing what such reckless abandon might cost
Cold sweats and your screams in the nightmares of sobbing sounds
Blinders on for far too long
Free now to see what's in your track
Trapped in life's painful ballad song
Constantly fighting the urges to look back
Could you do anything now one might ask
Questions about it being worth it to try
One foot moving slowly forward
The other anchored to that place you felt part of you die
A strange warmth for such a horrid cold place
Icy grip it holds, an unbreakable force
Spinning and lost in your own space
Another day comes of course
No light after you jump into such dark
No beauty, no touch, no grips on your hand saving you
Accepting change is the hardest part
Into the void you went, now what can you do

Writing has become more important as I live with cancer. It's a therapy, it's an escape, and it's a way to do something lasting that hopefully leaves an impression.

At our son's funeral, our friend & district superintendent who was preaching, told us, "There is nothing you could have done to keep this from happening. If there was, you would have done it." Still, I find myself wondering.
