The City Lights

Travelling Poetry

By Chloe GilholyPublished 8 years ago 1 min read

The city lights are calling me

The train has saved me a seat

The street criers want to win my purse

I’m getting out of bed

I’ve found a blossom tree

And a squirrel by my feet

He looked as if he wanted to curse

Then he stormed off with haste and dread

All the shops look glittery

People stroll with a seaside beat

I hope their burns don’t get any worse

Or else they'll be all flaky and red

Just got into my nightie

I should really get something to eat

I open the fridge door, still full of alcoholic blurs

Then I remembered, I’ve got no bread
