The Circle

A Personal Gospel

By Marcus HillPublished 5 months ago 1 min read

Pain—

an emotion felt since birth,

never leaving,

no matter how fast we run.

It hides in every corner,

waiting for weakness—

then strikes.

Effort means nothing

when ears grow deaf

and the heart floods with rage.

We punch through darkness,

only to find more

on the other side of light.

Existing feels useless

when hurt becomes

life’s most faithful friend.

Hatred becomes necessary—

a shield

against the thoughts

that beg us not to exist.

This whole living thing?

It’s hard.

And finding reasons to continue

can feel dim

when the game of life

plays unfair.

The idea that happiness is owed

is naïve.

Every positive brings its shadow.

Love, joy, and peace—

they must be worked for.

Their power comes

from resilience,

learned in the fight against pain.

Resist commonality.

Those who boast of happiness

may just be lost souls,

fooled by false light.

But don’t envy—

life is specific

to each soul,

each image

gifted by God.
