The Cicada

/little things

By Nick McConvillePublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Big Things

Are just webs of Little Things.

My fancy fountain pen

On a yellow legal pad

Fueled by coffee, black

The cicada who lives outside my window.

My friends, waiting outside

A Big Day

Built by Little Things

Rubi rides her bike

Mj drinks loose-leaf tea

Jillian cuddles with Angie

Angie eats ice cream with Jillian

Cam takes the day off

Annie sits by the lake

You are both Little and Big

Big to yourself

Little to me,

Sometimes.

Remove your face

And look at yourself.

From a fisheye lens,

Are you Big or Little?

Enjoy yourself

Take pleasure in yourself

Pleasure yourself

Your freckles and wrinkles

Wings and ocelli

I imagine that your singing is for me

And me alone

But I can do nothing with your song

And you would die

A lonely death

If I kept it to myself.

It’s the little things

surreal poetry
