The Chuck That Longed to Be Loved

Sat in a tree like he owned it

tail like a fan, feathers all flash

singing like someone was listening

No one was

He wasn’t shy, just stupid

kept flinging his heart out

like someone might catch it

Flowers under him

sun above grinning like a clown

and there he was

squawking love songs to nobody

Every bird that passed

gave him the once-over

then the once-away

Too bright, too weird

too much

Still he stayed

legs locked

chest full of noise

heart swinging like bait

He wasn’t giving up

He was giving everything

and not one bugger cared

Till one day

a bird like himself

landed beside him

looked him up and down and said,

Hi fancy a kiss? then we can fly

Now a pair of love birds

flying up and away

true to their love every day ❤️
