The Christmas Countdown
~ The magic and the chaos

Can you please send me your list?
I need to know what you want.
Don't leave it up to me to decide
Or you might not like what's inside
The boxes underneath the tree
~
I've four weeks to go
And still no list from you
You might get coal
Or something weird
Don't keep me waiting, or else.
~
Three weeks until the 25th
Now I have a partial list
Packages are arriving on my doorstep
I forgot what I have bought
Now I need a different list
~
Two weeks until we open gifts
I over-bought for you
But I still need a thousand gifts
Maybe, I can give this to him
And that to her
~
One week until the chaos ends
Now to baking cookies
And then off to wrapping
The pile that has grown
In the corner of the room
~
Oh! No! I forgot to send the cards!
Maybe we can skip that this year!
I grab a cookie
And settle in to finish wrapping
The stocking stuffers
~
The gifts are in place
The stockings stuffed
The cookies made
I'm exhausted
But still standing
~
Christmas morning
We gather round
Paper and packages
As the gifts are opened
And scattered around
~
Finally, we sit
The house quiets down
The fire is roaring
The hot cocoa cooling
We enjoy the moment
~
Another year around the sun!
