POETRY : THE CHOIR MASTER’S BURIAL

He often would ask us that when he died

After playing so many to their last rest

If out of us any could here abide

And it would not task us

To play over him the song he likes best

The one whose sense suits

Mount Ephraim.

A man sitting at the right side of the coffin

When he remember his last words

Took up the challenge

And said, is there any among us

To bring out flute that we may sing to him a song

According to his foretold.

The song that open the gate of heaven

The song that brings back memory

Of the endless journey

Giving the heart a sober taught

About the road that has no end.

Yes, the flute man said

Let us all in one voice sing

The song whose spirit wants

The song that embraces the angels

The song whose sense suits

Mount Ephraim.
