The Check

Riches aren't everything, don't be fooled

By savage writerPublished 7 years ago 1 min read
Mo money, mo problems - The Notorious B.I.G.

I thought the check would rescue you

from the flames of disgust and hatred singeing you

I thought the check would pull you away

from this imprisoning hell fitted with

steel bars going by the name of “Real Life”

I thought the check would help you

iron out those problems you’ve

been having at home with the family, you know

Can I just let you in on a little secret?

It was all a fallacy

The check ain’t do nothing for you, boy

Yet you still believe the check

could repair a household that’s been damaged

a long time ago, left to cave in on

itself and welter in the weather

Yet you still believed the check

could help you get over your

depression and PTSD at the snap of a finger

How about bipolar disorder, I mean

It runs on both sides of the ancestry,

don’t you see?

Get these lies out of your head

Nobody loves you at all

Da’ people you surround yourself

with now, they’re just depending on you is all

Don’t take it too personally

I don’t have to keep telling you this,

knuckleheads like you learn on their own anyway
