The little girl,
with snot on her nose,
screams loudly, running down this endless road.
_____
She is on a chase.
The one she pursues laughs in her face,
unbothered by the race.
He is a grown man,
unfazed, untouched,
yet cruel enough to play this gruesome game.
_________
Her feeble legs tremble, overwhelmed, exhausted,
yet he keeps her running, searching,
dangling promises like bait—
enticing, exciting, withholding.
_______
And when her strength is all but gone,
when time has stretched thin and old,
he turns back—
offers her a sliver of what she’s begged for.
______
Just enough to keep her chasing.
To keep her running.
To make her believe the reward is worth it,
to make her think it’s near,
that one day, it will all be hers.
____
But must I shout this loud to make you stop?
To meet me here,
at the point of my need when I call?
_______
I would leave this road,
but there’s nowhere to go.
So I plead with the sands to swallow me whole,
to erase this waste of an existence.
_______
Oh God,
why create me,
only to abandon me?
You shouldn’t have.
You shouldn’t have made me.

Marvelous Michael
I’m so glad you are here!

This is sad - a little girl wanting attention and someone playing with her emotions…or it could be an adult feeling this way. Well done.
