The Canvas You Make

I'll take all the colors of the rainbow to paint what you mean to me.

I want to be the color that streaks

across a midnight diamond sky,

flaring upward and far away

till morning's sunrise kiss.

*

I want to be the color that lights

your skin when you smile wide,

because you feel it too, deeply,

while we drink up the moon.

*

I want to be the color that sinks

down the water's edge tonight,

soaking up starlight falling,

as the waves caress your skin.

*

I want to be the color that beckons

when you run cold and sad and bleak,

the shine to even out your darker hues,

all the more to be your waiting joy.

*

I want to be the color that paints

you real and honest and true

no matter what lies you tell

or what the world sees in you.

*

I want to be the color that embraces

instead of judges or stands still

because I'm yours and you're mine,

this canvas we're making as we go along.
