The Cage

The trap in your mind

Is there a cage in your mind,

With bars only you can see?

Why must you be confined?

Why is it you’re not free?

Are you told what to think

Are there things you dare not say

Do you hide thoughts that if inked

They’d come and take you away

Are there thoughts so impure

Once in your mind they leave a mark

Can you conceal that stain to ensure

That they don’t see the truth in your heart

Can you keep your thoughts hidden

Those which you are told are wrong

Why are certain thoughts forbidden

If your ideals are right and strong

Could it be that their teachings

Are lies they need you to believe

Could the wisdom they’ve been preaching

be designed to deceived

One thing about Freedom that is odd

Is in a cage no one wants to be.

Those forced to dwell within often sob

always longing to be free
