The Bridge To Your Heart Fell Down

No bridge, the gaps too wide were done

The Bridge To Your Heart Fell Down

(a sandcastle poem)

The bridge to your heart fell down,

it didn’t crack or scream,

just dropped,

like truth too late to matter.

I stood where we met,

boots sinking in the sand,

where once you waited

like the tide waits

for no one.

I called your name

once,

then twice,

then not again.

your silence,

not sharp,

not cruel,

just gone,

a stillness you never let me touch.

I built you things,

with words,

with hands,

with eyes closed,

thinking they’d hold.

However love doesn’t last

if it’s built too close to water,

and I built us inthe sand.

Just like a child builds castles,

proud, foolish,

waiting for the sea to clap.

I should’ve known

when you stopped asking

what I was writing.

I should’ve known

when your name

stopped fitting in poems,

like it didn’t want to be remembered.

the bridge to your heart fell down.

I didn’t run,

I watched it sink

with everything I never got to say,

still in my mouth.

and you gone

already walking,

like it never stood there at all.

it didn’t fall into the rough sea water no,

it fell into the sands of time.
