Dearest Nanny Dot,
It’s been a few years,
I think of you often,
And shed bittersweet tears.
We had a lot of fun,
And shared so many good times.
Here’s a few of my favourites,
They never fail to make me smile.
When I was a little girl,
You’d turn up at the house.
I’d shout ‘where’s my coat?
Nanny’s here, she’s taking me out!’
We had some adventures Nanny,
You and me.
We’d go and feed the ducks,
Then have cottage pie for tea.
We used to share a bunk bed,
I was up the top.
In the middle of the night I’d shout
‘Nanny, can I have some pop!’
You’d lift your arm up,
You didn’t even think.
And you’d hold your hand up in the air
While I finished my drink.
Then in the mornings,
Me and Jack used to fight.
To see who could get into your bed first,
And cuddle you tight.
No matter who got there first,
It always ended the same.
The three of us in that little single bed,
It was our favourite game.
When we stayed round at your flat,
We’d have biscuits in bed.
And when you saw all the crumbs,
You’d tut and shake your head.
On the way back to your flat,
We’d go down the big hill.
Looking back now, it’s not big at all,
But I’d always scream like I was being killed.
We’d go and visit uncle Reg,
I was both of yours star,
You’d say ‘you’m bloody lovely
Katie you are.’
You’d talk about kicking the bucket,
And it used to make us cry.
We’d say ‘No Nanny, you’ll live forever’
Well, you gave it a good try.
Cold hands warm heart,
That’s what you used to say.
I’ll never find anyone with a heart as warm as yours Nan,
Even if I search every day.
I remember one time,
You looked at me and asked.
‘Was I a good Nan?’
I couldn’t help but laugh.
Because how could you ask,
A silly question like that.
You were the best Nan I could ever have asked for,
And I promise that’s a fact.
Goodbye and sleep tight Nanny Dot,
From your Katie Koo.
And the only thing I can say now is,
Nanny Noo, I love you I do.

I’m sorry for your loss. This was a sweet poem. I loved my grandparents too. They all passed away. 💖
Beautiful piece 💖👣✨🙏
