Are promises sacred? Or made to be broken? - Michelle Liew
**********************************************************************
I bear the weight of promises made
Words of love under moonlit skies
Some chiselled words stand the test
Most wear off, fleeting vows
Trust grows thin with time
A heart shatters
Dry roots weep
Etched scars
Stay.

So deep. Love it.
What wonderfully woven imagery and metaphoric delight.
Well-wrought! In answer to your question: Promises are most certainly sacred. However, volition being the foundation of dignity, and our word being the bond of our will, it will always be necessary, in order to separate the sacred from the profane, that people be given a choice in the matter, for there is nothing sacred at all about compulsion or coercion. What makes this difficult is that we often, in our well-meaning enthusiasm, bite off more than we can chew with regards to the promises we make. Discernment is just as important as sincerity when giving our word! Again, well-wrought, and thanks for taking the time to read my long-winded answer to your enlightening question!
This was so poignant and it hit me so hard. Loved your poem!
Such a poignant reflection on promises, trust, and their inevitable fading with time. It's raw and heartfelt.✨
Wow, yes etched scars stay!!
Lovely nonet! Well written!
Thought provoking Nonet… interesting from the bench’s perspective.
