The Beauty of Imperfections
Nature's Map

Unexpected connections form a unique jewelled design.
The window before me becomes a transient shrine.
******************************************************
Nature draws me the map of how things work.
Delicate repeating patterns are not simply a quirk.
******************************************************
Tomas Hood said ‘Frost is the greatest artist in our clime
– he paints in nature and describes in rime.’
******************************************************
A persistent wind on mountain tops forms rime, a rough, condensed, thick layer of ice.
Frost is not such super-cooled water. It is nature's 2D Mercator projected sublimed crystal ball, quite concise.
******************************************************
Imperfections obstruct the way the ice crystals yield,
making ice feathers appear on a cold windshield.
******************************************************
The marvel depends on restructuring building blocks: two hydrogen and one oxygen.
They form plates and columns beneath hexagonal rings. The prism faces let delightful patterns begin.
******************************************************
Imperfections cause directional changes, when conditions are at or below freezing.
Obstructions seed the phenomenon of fractal design, with an effect that is pleasing.
******************************************************
Expanding multiple-dimensional ice crystal dendrites form scales, needles and ferns.
Branching dendritic connections also describe how this idea, in my mind, innocently turns.
******************************************************
In the mystical mix of air pressure, temperature and humidity,
ephemeral frost and humanity share a tangible and fragile quiddity.
******************************************************
It is in the cold dead of winter, that new creations prepare to be born.
Heed: When the fire of a heart is frozen, moist tears inside too transform.
******************************************************
Tears can become rime or sublimate, reforming a thin, ancient crystal hoar frost.
Caution: If the heart’s window is glazed over or insulated, the new order is lost.
******************************************************
Watch: Obstructed water follows the path of least resistance in a stunning bedazzling way.
Crystalline swirls and spirals form landscapes that celebrate a winter wonderland day.
******************************************************
Proceed Carefully: Before driving forward, you must clear the window completely.
But first witness how nature works: concretely, neatly, discreetly and sweetly.

My stories usually present facts, supported by science as we know it, that are often spoken of in myths. Both can help survival in an ever-changing world.

Beautiful and magical. Love it ❄️🩵
This is a beautiful combination of science and nature! well done, Katherine!
Beautifully described abstractly and beyond.
Whoaaaa, this was so profoundly beautiful! Loved it so much!
