The August 2nd Eclipse 2025

Darkness shall befall the earth

The August 2nd Eclipse

The sky will go dark, but not like night

The sun will hide slow, slip out of sight

A quiet hush will fall on all

As shadows stretch and start to crawl

No birds will sing, no breeze will move

Just stillness hanging in the groove

The world will hold its breath in time

While day grows dim in steady climb

A ring of light, a silver line

The sun’s bright heart will not shine

The moment will hang, too brief, too rare

Then slowly light will fill the air

The day will come back, the shadows flee

The sun will rise high, its gold set free

But still the memory will hold its place

A silent mark upon the face

The total solar eclipse on August 2, 2027, known as the “Great North African Eclipse,” will be visible across parts of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. The path of totality a narrow corridor where the Moon completely covers the Sun will pass through the following countries:

Spain, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Somalia.

In these regions, observers within the path of totality will experience the full eclipse, with total darkness lasting up to 6 minutes and 23 seconds—the longest total solar eclipse observable from land between 1991 and 2114.

Areas outside this narrow path will witness a partial solar eclipse, where only a portion of the Sun is obscured by the Moon. For instance, parts of India will see a partial eclipse, but not totality.

This rare event is expected to draw significant interest from scientists, photographers, and tourists alike, offering a unique opportunity to observe and study one of nature’s most extraordinary phenomena.

For those planning to view the eclipse, it’s crucial to use proper eye protection, such as eclipse glasses or a pinhole projector, to safely observe the event.

Great poem on a great event to witness. I remember sitting outside I think back in the 1980's or so sitting on swing experiencing a total solar eclipse in Western Pennsylvania. It was kind of surreal but really cool hearing the night birds and even bats coming out even just for such a little while. Hope you get to see this one for it seems this one is not or the US.

  • Love your description of the eclipse, a great use of words. Thankyou for sharing xx
