The Apology

sit you down

By susan marie loehePublished 3 years ago 1 min read

look into my eyes

or close yours

and Imagine this

Apology to Love:

that when the world intruded,

I found myself unable to believe.

that the grey curtain descended

hanging there at fool's ever readiness,

for assuming that the weight

couldn't be borne by strength.

Apology:

For seeing you in the light of the unable

or the unrighteous free person.

for my cowardice.

Now I know

it really was me

all along the watch tower,

keeping the barest fire

the naked warmth,

for reasons that at the time called for

loss of myself

and nights where enemy encampments lie

waiting.
