The addiction to happiness

Reasons you should never date someone who’s addicted to happiness.

Addicts of happiness have divorced themselves from reality to a lasting affair with fantasy. To be addicted to happiness is to have a dysfunctional relationship with reality, and being that people are threads woven in the fabric of reality, anyone who has a dysfunctional relationship with reality will surely have a dysfunctional relationship with you.

Happiness addicts will hide behind the laughter of life to steal your most valuable treasure: your trust. But when times get hard, they’ll pawn your trust away to secure their own high.

You should never date someone who’s anti-pain. For pain is the keeper of life’s most deepest truths. No one can truly know who you are until he or she knows your pain. Addicts of happiness will make love to your pleasure, but they’ll never kiss your tears. For those who are stuck on the high of happiness will never be concerned with your lows.

Addicts of happiness will never sober up to face the rhythmic change in the cycle of life, nor will they go into recovery to seek a cure for their addiction, because they live in a world that enabled them to be hooked on such unhealthy high.

People who are addicted to happiness love being happy more than they love being in love. But on the journey of life, there are crossroads where happiness and love diverge into different paths. At such a crossroads, addicts of happiness will choose their high over their hearts.

When most people sit down to make a list of the ideal person to be in a relationship with, they often want to be with someone who has a good relationship with their family. But there is another type of relationship that is equally as important which often goes ignored: the relationship that person has with pain. At some point, pain will become the uninvited third person in every relationship, so before you enter into a relationship with someone, please make sure that person has a healthy relationship with life’s pain.

True happiness comes from embracing pain; avoiding it only leads to dysfunction.
