The Accidental Meeting
Part 4: The war between the heart that screams and the mind that whispers.
Life has a strange way of testing our progress. Just when we think we have mastered the art of "choosing ourselves," the past reappears at a corner, unannounced. An accidental meeting can feel like a sudden earthquake, shaking the foundation of the strength we worked so hard to build. This poem captures that terrifying moment of standing face-to-face with a ghost who never said goodbye—and the difficult realization that to survive this time, I cannot be the person I was before.
It is a beautiful feeling to meet you,
you who left without a goodbye.
An accidental meeting brought us together.
You talk like before, as if nothing happened.
And suddenly… I feel that warmth again,
your tenderness, and the love.
I want to tell you everything that happened while you were gone,
but fear holds me back.
I am afraid you might leave again.
The last time, when I told you my truth,
you left without a single word.
And now, as you stand there, just like before,
I am afraid to be the old me.
Timidly, I tell you about time, about who I am now…
This meeting was by chance, although maybe not,
because I looked for you at every step.
An unexpected meeting of two people who still love each other.
How to start the story now?
How much time should I give so I don’t crush you with my kisses?
Or should I pretend to be cold, strong…
To show you that I am stronger now,
just so I wouldn’t scare you,
just so I wouldn’t lose you again.
What to do?
The heart in my chest screams: “Call him, give him yourself again!”
But the mind whispers: “Not immediately. Don’t say everything.”
I know… if I give too much, you will leave.
So I will tell my heart that I love him,
and that he loves us.
But this time, I will listen to my mind.
I will not approach you like before.
Listening to the mind when the heart is screaming is perhaps the ultimate act of self-preservation. It is the moment we stop being victims of our own emotions and become the guardians of our own peace. But where does this leave us? In the final part of this series, I will share the ultimate resolution—the point where the journey of meeting, losing, and finding oneself finally reaches its destination.
