That's The Difference
A poem by Lizzy Pacem, written in 2020 while battling illness.

- I try everything I can to avoid illness
Because I don't want to inconvenience you;
You don't worry about whether you get sick
Or whether you stay healthy.
That's the difference.
- I go out and get Sprite and soups for you
When you fall under the weather;
I have to go out and get those things for myself
When I feel I may need them.
That's the difference.
- I get your medications for you
Without having to be asked;
You have to be woken up multiple times
and then throw a tantrum to go get mine.
That's the difference.
- I take care of the house and kids
So you don't have to worry about things when you don't feel well;
I'm still expected to manage that
Even when I'm ill.
That's the difference.
- You get to call out of work
And stay home to rest;
I don't get paid and nothing gets done
If I were to take a sick day.
That's the difference.
- You are everything to me,
And I want to take care of you and make you better when you're sick;
I'm just an inconvenience,
And I need to take care of myself.
That's the difference.
About the Creator
Lizzy Pacem
I have experienced many things over my long life, and all of these things influence my writing. I have been an advocate for the arts since the beginning of the concept of art, and I hope to inspire others to embrace their inner creators.
