That's How I Remember It
And I've Got The Scars To Prove It

he introduced color
to my drab existence
unlike any other
with a gnawing persistence
he filled up a void
that the world left gaping
an emotional toy
man, I must've been napping
cuz I fell for those lines
like a fish stealing bait
time after time
I ignored those mistakes
cause I knew who he was
would make its way back around
like a gambler who draws
when I should've laid down
an addict that's jonesing
for just one more fix
when he was just posing
I was one match among sticks
another cigarette burned
another drink he threw back
had my head a-turnin'
he never let up the slack
until he grew tired
just restless and bored
another badge he acquired
just the last one he adored
that was, till the next one
then I was retired
thrown out like the garbage
like old milk that expired
but if you were to ask him
that's one side of the story
he'd say it's sink or swim
and he wasn't my bouy
but believe me, I remember
and I barely survived
his love was a blender
and my innocence died
but, it's ok, I've moved through it
and I will be alright
It will sure take some doin'
to see love through these eyes

Phenomenal writing Kelli!
Wow, amazing poem, Kelli. Very powerful, thank you for sharing with us. So emotionally draining to be in a situation like that, glad it has a hopeful ending though.
