Author's Note
I reflect on the Texas Snow Apocalypse from 2021, and it was not a fun time at all. I lived with my Grandma, and we lost water and power for almost two weeks. The roads stayed iced over. It was rough. Many of us are trying to prepare for whatever this winter 2024 brings.
As we move into fall, I can’t help but feel the looming of Winter.
Weather predictions have already been made that Texas will get colder and icier.
Sadly, my state doesn’t have the infrastructure to prepare for these harsh winters. The responsibility is put on the citizens.

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.

Loved these haikus and the picture of your grandmother. I live in Britain and we are never prepared for snow but having lived in Canada, it doesn't faze me like other Brits. We don't have anything to cope if we have severe weather and so everything grinds to a halt. It's worrying though -is it climate change? I think so.

Ahhh so scary heading into another “unprecedented” winter 😢😢. It’s basically impossible to prepare for something that your entire state is not designed/set up to deal with! Great haikus too!!

I really felt for people in Texas during that time; so many people were making jokes, but all I could think was that it's the same (or inverse) as when we get a heatwave; your homes are not built for that kind of weather. I remember giving advice to Texan followers on Tumblr who had no idea how to cope with extreme cold and were dealing with things like chillblains for the first time. They then gave me tips for dealing with extreme heat - climate change is a terrifying thing. On a more cheerful note, this haiku is really elegant; it makes the point so clearly.
