This history has been a mystery
Slavery to bravery to what lies in store
Telling our youth who only seem bored
How do we connect to how far we’ve come
The origin of black history touches everyone
More than the will of man more than the reason we fight
Humanity has to rise above seeing beyond black and white
Secrets buried and history reeling time to unearth the true and start telling
Speak aloud to the powers that be division is rooted in hatred and secrecy
Lives have been lost marred by pain if we do not learn there will be nothing to gain
A voice in the crowd amidst all the yelling speaking truth can be so telling
We are the vessels to carry forth our histories remains
we must share more than just our history’s pains
Let each memory of our ancestors wash over us like a wave
Let it be the power to drive us forward for every life we save
For all who were beaten and forced to be slaves for all of those buried in unmarked graves
With sorry we remember the horrific price you paid we strive so your sacrifice was not in vain
History teaches us of all this miss dealing the reason we must learn from the things we are telling
Life’s seasons change just like the weather to change our history we must work together
The traits of our heritage are buried within
We must learn to see each other as a brother or friend
