Tears
The Inner Voice
What are these rich tears that fall from your face?
This deep wellspring of truth that never lies,
Which reveals what shallow words cannot say?
The raging storm or the new day sunrise
That has taken up residence inside
- - -
Are these tears of sorrow that my eyes see
That scream for a helping hand in the fire?
Or do they speak of unspeakable grief
That has lingered past the funeral pyre,
Which left you longing for something higher?
- - -
Or are these tears of gladness that I see
That boast in the joy of your wondrous day?
Or do they sing of a greater beauty
That only sacrificial love displays
When one who stands condemned is met with grace?
- - -
My friend, do not conceal your tears from me
Do not let callousness tear you apart
Let there be no shame, let them flow freely
For I long to see what is on your heart
I want to see you as you really are
