Taproot

From One: Sun, Moon, Stars

Seen by most: a weed

started from one seed

and from that seed, a shoot.

*

A shoot above, though below in ground,

a stubby singlemindedness firmly downbound,

most indelicately determined, taproot.

*

Above everchanging, all yellow and green

below is an anchor, far reaching, unseen

beauty may wither, but below: survival absolute.

*

Cut the flower, pull the leaves

braid stems into wreathes

the top disappears, but the root's resolute.

*

Above yellow sun, wisped moon, floating stars

below tenacious tapping unseen reservoirs

foundation secured resisting uproot.

*

Most want green and jeer at my yard

see it as less-than, consider it marred

conformity the goal, steadfastness disrepute.

*

It is my life, to my values devote

Sunny life, moonglow end, then my soul afloat

by wind's breath takes flight, your expectations confute.
