Tangles of Whispers
David reads a poem from his forthcoming book 'Rattlesnake Jar'
Tangles of Whispers by David Philip Ireland
Music: Cosmic Glue from David's Five Seasons
You glower at nimbus with your sedge heels on
Blistering blades of razory green
Cutting like buzzsaws, vipers, and hornets
Nettledown stingers at the water’s edge
The eddies and ripples
The rattles of wheels
Sighs of the engines
Grinding of steel
Blend and meld with the thud of the club ‘cross the moorings
Where Bluebeat and Ska scratch the black forty fivers
And lift our tacky DMs from the cidery flooring
To build us a soundscape for more than one night
Tangles of whispers heard in the dark
In the dark
All our bright horizons shimmer with turmoil
Where once was calm is now raw trouble
Nerve ends dipped in dissident acid
Where once was a love of sorts
Now there is nought but a tussle of vitriol and deep conversation
And for what and for why?
And now there are thorns, swords of contrition
Leaves of lives
Wraiths of lies
Tangles of whispers heard in the dark
But souls are more fragile than we care to admit
And towpaths and texting just lead to divisions
Mis-courses narrowing to deadlier ends
In the dark weaves of devious undercurrency
And now there are thorns, swords of contrition
Leaves of lives
Wraiths of lies
Tangles of whispers heard in the dark
Tangles of whispers
But you won’t join me here
For now our scheduled demise has arrived
And we have reached the drowning point of our lives
So entangled in pondweed and sunsets as we have become
Drifting and sliding through the online timeline
Scrawling runes on the ruined shoreline
Whispers
Tangles of whispers
Tangles of whispers heard in the dark
