Tales of Torment: An Opera of Laughter

May I tell you? -What these voices tell me?

everywhere under the sun,

i'm followed,

watched,

stalked‐

the shadows dance behind my back

they sing,

and they laugh‐

no one's near,

what do you mean?

yet still i hear

we're right here

voices‐

as long as i've been here

we've always been here

so have they,

and we always will be

been taunting me

an opera of laughter,

mocking me‐

their screams from down under

torment me

in every day

and through every night‐

even now, as i write

no one reads this

they interrupt

you're wasting your time

their screams from down under,

torture my ears‐

voices no one else hears,

no one's listening

no one knows

i know that you know

no one understands

that no one cares...

to what i have been cursed‐

they never did

may i tell the tale of my torment?

no one cares

in a place with no peace,

through slumber's absence,

no one's listening

and in void's company‐

why do you still speak?

the chaos

what purpose do you even have?

the chatter

you're not helping anyone

the voices i can't quiet‐

there's no such thing as peace

there's no such thing as peace

give up

i've always been ignorant of silence,

just quit

it's a quietness i have never known‐

and you never will

from sun up,

an opera of laughter

to sun down,

and in all moonlight,

screams from down under‐

voices,

only i can hear,

we'll always be here

mocking me

always...

as long as i have been,

so have they

always...

all i've ever known‐

how they interrupt

every day,

and corrupt

every moment‐

they stole my peace at birth,

peace isn't real...

and dangle it over my head

for you...

they've brought death to my joy,

from first cry

they burned it before my very eyes

to final breath

along with what hope there used to be

between life and death

burned to the ground at my feet

we will always be by your side

the shadows dance around the flames of this burning paradise

see? we can be poets too!...

they sing

anyone can do it!

they laugh

you're not special...

they mock

you don't matter...

and they taunt

you never did.

voices i can't quiet form this,

opera, of laughter

it follows me

everywhere i go

everywhere under the sun

this opera of laughter,

it torments me‐

About the Creator

Josh Morgan

Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
