Taking in Shadows and Sharp Lights

Embrace and Shame

My mouth is running out of breath

I'm smiling, knowing death is near

Crying from my mistakes

Veins are popping and rushing through my skin

Making my eyes spin, and now I'm out of time

I can't sleep, feeling my words fall and struggle against the guilt

Carnage within this mirror

The clock is melting and breaking the numbers from the heat

Hold my fists

Make it stop. Please and let me feel the cold air

Heaven is not too far when the earth is burning

I'm fallen within the flames, it will consume me

I'll let it break me, every part of me

My lies, my promises, will be reborn in the ashes

Taking another form

Breaking and slicing into my bones

Because, just like everyone else

I know I belong to the stars and the void

I just don't know if they would still want me.

I love how the poem transitions from anguish to cosmic belonging. “I know I belong to the stars and the void” feels like a surrender that transcends suffering.
