Taking A Seasonal Position
A Holiday Reflection Using Verse

Friday and I am in the red
Due to holiday happy hour debt
Created down at the local bar
Celebrating who we are
Thankful and free
Searching for that perfect balsam tree
Enchanting, ever so green
A festive spruced up dream
If you know what I mean
Decorated from heaven to earth
Honoring a special birth
Representing faith
Secure and safe
We cannot wait
For the late
December due date
Parties held, opens conversation gates
Snow job offered, sounding great
At the frozen pond, perfect to skate
Despite the melting economic ice
Dependent on throwing, the lucky dice
Described as ‘hot and nice’
But I ask, “When do I pay the price?”
For what is done
Recreational fun
Gift giving
Making a living
Now habitating down in the cellar
Drinking brew sudsy and yellow
Feeling really good
Spirits providing relief as they should
Command I do another beer
Six pack delivered filled with cheer
Knowing what is near
A new year
Where
I must share
A profitable affair
Where I dare
To say
Real pay
During months dark and grey
I clean up those with a financial mess
Getting them to confess
And find out how they actually passed the business test
Busy being a loitering guest
And pathetic pest
Stuffing our stockings
Mocking
When they see our credit card proclaimed blocking
And told we were in the red
Due to playing Santa Claus and going into unbelievable debt
