Take Your Best Shot

It Won't Be Forgot-ten

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

a voodoo doll is what I am

people and places stitched within

songs and experiences

shape my form

those thoughts and memories

keep me warm

I feel the cold as threads break free

as the world takes its jabs for free

I muster the strength to pull the strings

protecting the softer side of me

tattered, but no worse for wear

withstanding stress, maintaining care

battered and bruised behind a smile

like a sly old fox or crocodile

so, go ahead, thrust that needle in

but remember, you get what you give

the doll may smile, intact, of yet

but each blow received, it won't forget
