Take my picture in Howth

*

Tide's pushed out today,

whistling wind holds the gulls

aloft and still

as the sun gives them

their spotlight, to perform

before our eyes.

And the hills are soft

and green and ancient

and they fall into the sea

like old giants taking rest.

My country, is a painting

without a canvas

and all around

nobody seems to notice,

too busy telling

the world that

they're here, in Howth

and as I watch them

I wonder:

are they really?

Ah to be in the here and now is such a choice anymore with all the technology to pull our attention away. Beautiful reflective piece, and the photo is spot on :)

"whistling wind holds the gulls" - one of the most engaging lines I've read in a long time. The whole piece is so well done, just beautiful.

  • Mindfulness, the gift of being present in both moment & space.

Wonderfully poetic. It seems most people today never take the time to stop and smell the roses. Very well done.

This is beautiful and very sad! So very true about modern people/ Also googled Howth and it looks stunning! Well done on this one, Dean. Another fine piece! The picture is great too!

"And the hills are soft and green and ancient and they fall into the sea like old giants taking rest." I very much loved these lines. If felt like a daydream of sorts. Excellent work!

What, no cat testicle poem? I used to be sad when those around me couldn’t appreciate the beauty of something with me. It made me feel alone. And this has conjured those memories in a way that hurts a bit. But also I’m starting to think maybe it’s not meant for them to experience, and it’s okay to transcend the banality that most call life. That’s a great photo too.
