Take Heart And Dance

Every minute is a gift

“How are you today?”

Think back to the moment you first opened your eyes this morning,

“How did you feel?”

Because that’s the first crossroad of the trek your day will take.

**

“Would you usually take a right turn at the crossroads?”

Then today, mix it up, take that left-hand curve,

And ride it all the way to the end,

Start your day on the right foot and leave the rest to be what it will be.

**

Stop the pain rehearsals,

No re-living past failures; instead, take a moment to smile,

For today is for speaking promises and accepting gifts,

Enjoy the sun shining, the breeze rifling through your hair and the air that fills your lungs.

**

Enjoy the simple things,

Know that the crooked roads in your future have already been straightened,

The problems you face have already been won; you just don’t know it yet,

You are exactly where you’re meant to be, doing all you’re meant to be doing.

**

Face your fear, trust in the process,

And welcome those doors that close in your face,

They are not meant for you,

They’re just the stepping stones to the door that is yours.

**

Kiss goodbye to all that you feel you’ve lost — you didn’t need them,

Wipe the tears that you’ve cried — your soul has been cleansed of the dirt you’ve waded through,

Shower in the rain — for the sun will soon return,

Love life — for your story has no end.

**

Trust your lessons,

Learn your centre of gravity,

Take a time out, if needed, but don’t give up,

And dance! Dance to the tune that only your ears can hear.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

"Stop the pain rehearsals." I should tattoo this on my arm so I can see the reminder every time I look at it and take the other turn.

  • I smell sage in the air!

A much needed reminder to make the most of everyday and that attitude is everything!
