Synesthesia

Poem by Rin Willocks

By Rin WillocksPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

In a new day’s light

I let myself open,

Like yawning petals of blue.

Stretching to the sun,

Reminded that I am warm

I am amber of hue.

My sighs are soft

Knowing my marble love

Is a kindness,

Sculpted for blood, for strangers,

For a reflection in my mirror.

I am flushed fully, pink

I can rejoice a new day,

Let my heart blossom bold

Under grey skies,

Under threats of rain.

I have a heartbeat that sings

Even after the critics

Claim it tone deaf.

The notes paint my bedroom

Only the kindest shades.

Teal, gentle to my soul,

When I find a longing

For a hand folded in mine

Emerald, for the nights

I find strength in

My own muscles.

Crimson caresses me

When poetry bleeds

Free, from my memories.

There is a prism born from me

When I feel most deeply,

A canyon of color.
