Sweet Home Colorado

Home Made

By Earl W. PearlPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

They say all roads still lead to Rome

But this ain’t Europe and I ain’t lost

It’s Colorado I call home

And where I’ll stay, despite the cost

Some come to see the Aspens turn

The champagne powder when it snows

But when their lungs begin to burn

The air’s too thin up in their nose

There’s Red Rocks concerts, Estes Park

Maroon Bells and Hanging Lake

The Mile High night life after dark

A Denver omelette when you wake

It doesn’t matter what you choose

Pro football games or hockey pucks

There’s basketball and microbrews

But be advised, our baseball sucks

Some come for hiking, some to ski

A rafting trip or hot springs dip

And some will come here just to be

Or wager with a gambling chip

Now don’t forget we’re very high

That’s not a reference to the weed

You’ll get drunk faster, wonder why

It sneaks up with alarming speed

The first snow comes ‘round Halloween

Sometimes a trace, sometimes a lot

I noticed this at seventeen

From my hometown of Ellicott

So now you know what we’re about

This poem should help you understand

You’ll notice too when flying out

No airport’s bigger in the land
