Swallowed Sun
A hush drapes over midday’s glow,
shadow creeping, measured, slow.
The sun once fierce,
once bright, once whole,
wanes beneath the moon’s control.
Gold turns ashen, dim and frail,
a phantom ring, a silent veil.
Daylight falters, cold and thin,
as darkness dares to step within.
A breathless world, a frozen tide,
eyes uplifted, arms spread wide.
Yet light, though stolen, waits its turn
a smoldering ember set to burn.
A Swallowed Sun.
A hush drapes over midday’s glow,
shadow creeping, measured, slow.
The sun once fierce,
once bright, once whole
wanes beneath the moon’s control.
Gold turns ashen, dim and frail,
a phantom ring, a silent veil.
Daylight falters, cold and thin,
as darkness dares to step within.
A breathless world, a frozen tide,
eyes uplifted, arms spread wide.
No hand can halt the turning sphere,
the dark will pass, but leave its smear.
