Sunset Sonnet
A sonnet about standing on the beach at sunset considering the possibilities.

Horizon’s edge, the water’s arcing skin,
Now waits beneath the sinking eye of Ra.
As I behold the golden path begin,
I rot within depression’s sharken maw.
.
From where the sun and Earth do dare to kiss.
Soft waves caress the shore with Mother’s grace,
Though none may know the depths of my abyss:
Salt water hides the tears upon my face,
.
Where sunlight meets the liquid edge of earth,
Reflects the long and blinding golden lane.
This moment beckons, promising rebirth,
Or night’s embrace, at last, to end the pain.
.
A path of light reaches to where I stand,
But where I was: just footprints in the sand.
