Damned— by the moonlight
Aftertaste— flesh of my flesh
Skin— caught in my teeth

Authors note:
I think the reasons werewolves have always scared me so much, is not only because they lose themselves but because they’re bound to harm those they love.
I also think, of all the sensory horrors that come with transforming into a beast at night, the biggest sensory horror to me would be transforming back to one’s self at day, but with the proofs of guilt still there: blood grit congealing under your fingernails and bits of flesh festering between your teeth.
The wood cut I used for the picture here is titled “the werewolf or the cannibal” it’s by Lucas Cranach the Elder. I usually prefer to use unsplash for story visuals, but this is one of those art pieces that I’ve always found really unsettling so I figured I’d share it here.
Anyway, that’s everything I was going for here, hope it worked. As always, wide open to feedback :)

Great choice of image, and a great haiku. Enjoyed the follow up.
Wickedly written. Great job and I love the background on both of your pieces
At first I misread “the wood I cut,” and was awestruck. Great pairing, and your words are perfect for this image.
