Sunlight Season

a frigid cheer…!

I pass through winter

Enclosed in darkness

And shake with hypothermia.

The year was merciless—

Cerulean held my throat;

Baby blue danced in my stomach.

Vile visions violated voraciously.

My body was drained

And forced into the dullest gray.

My mind was altered and fuzzy

Like a rotted peach

That fell much too late.

And much too soon

It longed to reclaim its perch

Upon the branches of safety.

Little was I privy

To the minute seedling it planted

Afore it began decomposing.

This seed—this hope

That grew beneath a sunless sky

And within desolate dirt

Persevered through that which lacked

And sprouted with three

Preciously tiny leaves.

The angered bite of winter

Did its best to freeze

The sapling in a shadowy coffin

But the seed had the past

Burrowed deep in its veins

And remained unaltered

By the antagonistic cold.

And in the pitchy moment

Where winter wailed deafeningly

The sky bursted open

With the blinding light

Of a love-filled star

And clear royal blue skies.

Agonized bawls scorched

The air and woeful winter

Was burned and banished!

The seed could now grow

Underneath a sunlit sky

And eventually be nurtured

On the healing, nutrient-rich teat

Of the soil that coddled it.

The winds of change—

The swift voices of fate

Blew anew and spoke of peace.

This infantile year began

With a bitter memory

Of the most horrendous sight.

But its first day ended

With a saccharine kiss

From heaven’s sunlight.

I experienced blissful

Visions of hope

And abundant jubilation.

My once rotted mind

Now brims with flavorful

Bright pink and orange—

My body shines its

Milk chocolate hue

Under a complimenting sky;

The golden hour evolved

Into the golden year

And all the dark is no more

Than a faint ashen whisper.

I shall walk with these joyous

Dreams and let them guide me

Into a better tomorrow—

One ripe with juicy experiences

And nuzzling love;

This is my Sunlight Season.
