Sunflowers
They don’t ask questions
don’t beg for the rain
they turn their bold faces
to light once again
No mirrors or make-up
no whisper of shame
just golden defiance
in sun-sparked flame
They rise from dry soil
with roots holding fast
unfurling their petals
like flags from the past
No need for permission
no worry or pride
they stand in their glory
and never once hide
I walk past them smiling
they nod in reply
not reaching for heaven
just meeting the sky

Beautiful Marie, definitely a 15/10 and goes to the top of the gem box. It has such a sweet and deep sentiment and your usual rhyming charm.
They are as you say the happy flowers like big beautiful smiles.
Love the sunflowers in my garden 🌻❤️
Sunflowers are great and I even have a few in my little gardens too. They are like guardians. Good job.
Wow, this was great Marie. I remember walking to the bus stop and my husband showing me a sunflower beyond the gates of someone’s home. What you wrote about them, really does speak true to their nature. Especially their petals like a flag from the past. Nodding in reply, aided by the wind. I especially like this line, ‘ not reaching for heaven just meeting the sky’ very thoughtful and vivid imagery 👌🏽👏🏽♥️🤗
My absolute favourite flower of all and the hardest for me to grow here in Sweden. Mine are about a foot and a a quarter tall and usually peak in late August to usher in autumn. Lovely poem!
