Summer Sonnet

Don't Blink

By Nancy BrissonPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

To live in a town where long summer days

Go by in blink of verdant leafy gifts,

Warmth creeps in with flower-pink arrays

And senses wake from winter’s snowy drifts.

Blue northern lakes lure boaters sunny feats,

Adorn tables with white linen while we dine,

Eat seafood, avocado, baby beets.

Music wafts our souls dance on nights divine. (benign)

Make most of pleasures drawn in sepia ink

Walk dappled trails though parks to breathe calm sighs

Sit at fireworks on lawns as fireflies wink

Hear children laugh, and watch star-spangled skies.

Store it in chemical mental splendor

Long sylvan days give way to winter rigor.
