Summer’s Goodbye

A Sonnet for Lost Love

By Arabella HallPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

It was the picturesque day, like those passed

It smelled of life and my love burning sweet

And in the distance were green meadows vast

With soft young flowers bending at our feet

But unlike the days I had grown to know

There was a different taste hanging near

I did not know until you told me so

And I had to say goodbye to my dear

With the scent of lavender you shall leave

Leave me with honey and the blooming trees

And on this melancholy summer’s eve

Set sail far away to cross the vast seas

Perhaps you will find the beauty you seek

While in the meadows I sit sad and weak

sad poetry
