Sun beats hot on the pavement

And all around

Splashing is heard

Summer seen as this beacon of hope

We pray for its return

Yet year after year it disappoints

This time of life, joy, and freedom

Suffocates you and leaves you dry

Summer the lover that taunts and teases

Then lies and cheats

False promises it brings

With the last school bell’s ring

The heat traps in a pool of exhaustion

You do not want to move

So how are you free?

Though this façade, delusion

Whatever it may be

Will last for all eternity

Cause less than two months

The schools will ring

With talk and calls

For the summer not the spring
