Lemons swirling sweet, an ice cold pitcher
Cicadas sing ageless summertime songs
Mickey Mouse rod, seven year old fisher
Georgia red clay, grilling, getting along
I caught rainbow trout, thumbs speared by their spine
Pawpaw threw his back, wide grin on his face
Holding the fish high, I yearn to feed mine
With some bread, a kiss, the fish swam in place
I turned for worms, put the fishing rod down
The bank gave way, slip and slide, the river
Mawmaw's shout, grandpa's arms lift me, the ground
Lost pink shoe, all alone? Made me quiver
Search, stir up mud, my next move is clever
