Such are the Blue Climes
A Sonnet

Poetry speak of the wind in the trees
And sings on of earth's sublime, steady breath,
And bells in the soul a-tolled by that breeze -
Yet such gorgeous climes mark a muse's death.
*
A poem begins in a brutal dearth:
the dry hollow drum of cracked cistern hearts;
Voids of love-light, joy bright, meadowy earth:
Such are the blue climes where poetry starts.
*
Could the starry heavens be much admired
Without the tenebrous backdrop of night?
Would the soft shadowed woods be so desired
Were the world not warped by cold city light?
*
In unmet yearning, inspired rains release;
In our shards, seek, find, the most crucial peace.

Congratulations on the win!πππ
Well done.
not sure how I missed this W. great win and so very well deserved.
This is amazing, Gabriel. Utterly perfect, and a joy to read. I love this bit: "Voids of love-light, joy bright, meadowy earth" (joy-bright is genius) but to pick a favorite word, line, stanza, would be impossible. You schooled me on this poetic form, that's for sure. And I'll be coming back to this poem to learn when I choose to venture my way into the sonnet form. IMMENSE congratulations, Gabriel. This is well-deserved.
Wow! So amazed by the theme and the execution. And a GREAT example of how itβs done. Congrats, Gabriel! π€©
Itβs easy to see why this poem won, Gabriel! It is so gentle throughout yet builds almost imperceptibly to such a gorgeous finish. The third quatrain is especially lush and beautiful! Congratulations! Richly deserved!
This is gorgeous, Gabriel. Congrats on the win.
Congratulations on your win! ππWhat an amazing sonnet, I wish I read it sooner.
What a lovely, mesmerizing sonnet, Gabriel. Much felt congratulations on achieving the ultimate prize with this beautiful and lyrically haunting piece. Well done.
Very expertly written! Congrats!
Amazing poetry, no wonder youβre a winner! Congrats!
Wooohooooo congratulations on your win! ππππππ
This is a fucking masterpiece, pardon my Scottish. I am sorry I am only just reading this now, after you placed as a Winner, but my word, it is a real triumph. What I loved, like Amanda a little, was the fact that the flow never lets up even though you didn't make it easy for yourself with your word choices. It all worked so well together and felt like I was reading some forgotten piece that had been found in a dusty corner of an old pub in Stratford or something. Well done, sir!
Congratulations Wowβ¦ I didnβt even an attempt a sonnet. Way to go
πππLove the effort you put into the photo. π The rhythm of this is so upbeat. I feel like I am on the road. Yet the words speak of darkness. I love that they both complimented each other. Oh man. This feels so whimsical. I am both understanding and appreciating the words. Yet I want to dance and cry and twirl. I feel very inspired right now. This was outstanding. Congratulations on your win, Gabriel π€β€οΈπ€πππ
Wow, wow, wow. This flowed effortlessly. Really impressive especially given your diverse word choice! Well earning of 1st place!!
Congratulations
Back to say congratulations!!!
Congratulations! Beautiful sonnet!
I adore this! Such a great message here, too!
This sonnet feels both timeless and deeply personal. Its meditation on contrast β beauty and void, night and light β speaks to the essence of why we create art.
Bloody hell, Gabriel. This is a wonderful sonnet, really encompassing the idea of light and dark. Can't have one without the other. Without the contrast, the other is lost.
Wonderful work! Really tells the origin story of poetry very well
This is such a beautiful piece
