Strumming Your Praises

The Admirable Qualities of my Ukulele

By Gabriel HuizengaPublished 2 years ago 1 min read
Photo by Gabriel Testoni on Unsplash. Thanks, fellow Gabriel!

Simple and small

yet able to bear so much feeling;

You brighten the room

and lighten the heart!

You are easy to learn,

more still to disdain;

with a basic wood stain,

natural and plain.

You are humble and fragile,

unthreatening and unassuming;

not particularly made to impress,

nor yet to endure extreme duress,

yet we have carried each 0ther over oceans...

You are able to turn strangers into fast friends,

and allow me to bring along a bit of home,

wherever we go.

You are my ukulele! :)

NOTE: I wrote this piece with the intent that it be enjoyed in the format in which it appears in the photo above! I found that the ukulele shape of the poem didn't translate super well to the double-spaced structure on the Vocal page - so I decided to reshuffle things a bit, but really wanted to include the original format. I hope you enjoy!

    I have a ukulele too. I can't play it though but you've inspired me to give it a go again. Mine's yellow and has travelled the world with me too!

  • Thats how I used to feel about my guitar. Made a lot of friends carrying it with me
