Strange Love
A Brief Encounter

A strange love we had, he and I
Fiction, nonfiction
Spiral-bound
Miles of tales shared
Yet, our story fell short
Two authors
whose narratives
Inscribed separate paths
Two bookends
Never meeting in the middle
An odd couple we were, he and I
Day and night
Night and day
His sun shined explicitly
My moon hid behind shadows
Two masses
Star, satellite
Sun equals soul, moon; mind, body
His gravitational pull, greater
Never aligning, we drifted
Weird ones, we were; what a pair
X-file spectacles
He, the investigator
Me, an out of this world being
His rationality, my fantasies
Time zones clashing
Central versus Mountain
Travelers navigating separate spheres
Brief road companions
Who departed at a fork in the road
A strange love we had, he and I
Fleeting yet fulfilling
Cordial thirst-quenching
Makeshift satisfaction till the last gulp
Refreshing, revitalizing
Until sweetish sensations fizzled
Aftertastes dissolving
Dehydration hungered for new flavors
Fresh cuppas, we desired
Mutual parting, seeking another chalice’s sip
