Let them miss you.

Stop being readily available. It may seem like the right thing to do, especially because we’re used to being constantly connected. But making space is powerful, and sometimes that means rejecting every invitation or not immediately responding to every communication.

Although some could label this as manipulating, it isn’t. It all comes down to valuing your own time and effort. Allowing space enables others to value, miss, and appreciate you.

When you are always around, replying to messages, and going gatherings, others begin to take you for granted. You start to become dependable. But people start to notice you when you take even a small step back. They understand how much they miss you when you’re not around and what they had while you were.

Being overly accessible can at times come across as a desperate attempt to get acceptance or attention. You may believe that others will value you more if you’re always around. But often, the opposite happens. Your presence becomes less valuable as people begin to think you’ll be there forever.

You allow others to sense the emptiness of your absence by creating some distance, whether it be by taking longer to respond, not always being the first to make plans, or saying no when you need time for yourself. They will start to genuinely appreciate your time and effort at that point. As they say, “You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.”

It isn’t about being “hard to get” or playing games. It’s about creating boundaries and understanding your value. Making time for yourself shows to others the value of your time. It makes them respect you more.

You become someone worth waiting for once you stop being so available. Allow him to miss you. Instead of a hundred messages, let the silence between them speak louder. Your absence adds significance to your presence.

So don’t worry about being there all the time. You demonstrate your value when you take a step back.
